How we use AI
AI isn't going away, and we think small organizations should lean into it rather than fear it. Used well, it's one of the best ways to stretch a small budget and a small team. So we use it here, and we're open about where and how.
The daily feed
The feed is fully automated, but it isn't an AI model making judgement calls. It's software that follows fixed, written rules (see Methodology), and every rule has a test. The same evidence always produces the same decision, and every decision can be traced back to its reasons.
That software was written with the help of AI coding tools, and a person designed, reviewed and tested it.
The blog, guides and pages
Much of the writing on this site, including blog posts and guides, is drafted with help from AI. A person reviews, edits and approves every post and guide before it's published, and is responsible for what it says. Posts and guides written with AI help are marked "Written with AI assistance, reviewed by a person" at the top.
What we never do
- We never paste private information, yours or anyone else's, into AI tools.
- We never let AI decide what goes on a block list.
- We never publish AI-generated content without a person reading it first.
If something's wrong
AI can be confidently wrong, and so can people. If you spot a mistake anywhere on the site, email hello@watchmanhq.com and we'll fix it.
